Protect Your Life – Get A Bike Helmet

Author: Brian Senor
If you are one of those people who love the thrill of riding your motorcycle down a long stretch of country road, you should ensure that you are following all of the necessary safety precautions such as a motorcycle helmet.
A motorcycle helmet helps to reduce or completely prevent injury to the head or even death. And, with the vast selection of helmets, you will certainly be able to find one which will suit your style and tastes. In addition to style, make sure that the helmet abides by all required regulations.

Today, the most common colour of helmet is black. Regardless, black is the least visible of colours which makes it difficult for other motorists to see you riding in the dark. In contrast, a white helmet has been known to reduce collisions by approximately 24% due to the fact that they are significantly more visible.

In addition to preventing head injury, helmets also help to minimize the sound of the wind, making it easier to perceive other sounds. It also serves to protect the eyes from insects and wind, permitting you to see more clearly. The full-face helmet allows for increased facial coverage and therefore provides additional protection.

When choosing a helmet, you should find one which fits your head correctly and snugly, so that it stays stable during the ride. The helmets are formed from plastic with the top-of-the-line headgear being enforced with carbon fibre and Kevlar. They are particularly designed to protect during crashes but, after an accident, the helmet should be replaced.

In order to ensure safety, the helmet should always be replaced after any sort of impact, regardless of whether any damage has visibly resulted on the helmet. The most common motorcycle injury is closed head injury. It is quite severe with the brain moving within the skull, causing bleeding which can be dangerous. This makes the helmet a necessary asset as studies show that motorcycle riders that use helmets tend to crash less and sustain fewer injuries and deaths.

Perhaps the easiest means to purchase a helmet is on the Internet. This will allow you to study all of the options and choose the best helmet available. The graphics found on helmets are varied and complex, from the traditional simple helmet to ones adorned with skulls and tigers.

Helmets that are sold in online stores will list whether or not they are compatible with current regulations and you will certainly be able to find one helmet that will fit your personality. Keep In mind that helmets are able to save your life while still looking stylish!

How to Purchase a Motorcycle Helmet

Author: Arai Helmet
There are a large amount of things that need to be considered when purchasing bike helmets. It is so vital to consider the’safety factor.’ Some bike helmets are just not as safe as others and you should be aware of this. Some of the more preferred bike helmet manufacturers are Arai, Shoei, Icon,Suomy, Erex, Bell, HJC and Nolan. There are several other makers, but these are just some of the more well known firms. When it comes to safety there are 2 major concerns to consider.

But honestly it should be viewed oppositely. Safety must come first. So far as the safety factor goes you must be ready to be seen well by other drivers. Bright colours stand out and are extraordinarily plain, even at night, while lifeless dark colours are not seen simply. It is very crucial to select a bright color that could be seen by other drivers, even at night. Another factor to think about is the form of the helmet. Some have tall slim oblong heads ( egg formed ) while others have round or oval-shaped heads.

Trying on helmets for a tight fit is the only sure way to establish if it’ll fit your head properly and nicely. And, you would like the weight of the helmet to be distributed correctly so that the head can support the helmet simply. As far as safety is concerned the no 1 thing to consider is your marginal vision. Some helmets simply don’t permit a biker to see to their periphery sufficiently good to be safe.

If the liner is not a decent fit for your head you can notice particular spots on your head that are receiving more pressure than others. You can usually have less pressure in actual areas when using this kind of liner. Typically you will be better off trying one on in a store first. Then, after you know the brand, size, color and type of liner that you adore it is an easy job to skim online for the best deals.
The most dreadful mistake most shoppers make is locating a flashy cool-looking helmet online and then get it only due to its looks and for no actual reason. Spend a bit of time shopping and you may doubtless finish up with a product that you could be pleased with for years yet to come.

Michigan Bicycle Accident Lawyer Reveals Tips To Make Your Child Wear A Bike Helmet & Prevent Injury

Author: LBuckfire
Perhaps the most frustrating part of being a parent of a kid who rides a bike is that while you know how important it is for his safety to wear a helmet, your child does not seem to understand its relevance. The loss of 698 lives in bicycle/motor vehicle crashes in 2007, which makes it just under two people every day of the year in the U.S., is a terrible toll. 57% of those killed were between the ages of 5 and 44; 15% of those killed in 2007 were under age 16, 77% of those injured were between the ages of 5 and 44; 28% of those injured were under age 16. Let these alarming statistics scare you further.

Here are some tips and ideas which are aimed to get your child wear a bike helmet, EVERY TIME he takes his bike out on the road:

1.Start the helmet wearing habit as early as when they are riding tricycles. This can turn it into a life-time habit. This is also the time when you can teach them the link between wheeled vehicles, pavements and helmets.

2.Let them choose their helmet. If they are the ones who are going to wear it, let them decide what they want to wear. All you need to watch out for is that the helmet is comfortable, fits properly and is generally safe (CPSC sticker). Even if the helmet works out a bit expensive, you rather agree to this, provided they promise to wear it all the time.

3.If you too ride a bicycle, wear a helmet yourself. Kids learn from adults and you could be a role model for them in this regard. This would also show them how much protection the brain needs.

4.Talk to your child’s close friends and encourage them to wear helmets too. Peer pressure works like magic in such circumstances. Once your child sees others wearing helmet, his ‘need for inclusion’ would urge him to wear one too.

5.Teach your child regarding the importance of protecting his head; their bikes are their first ‘cars’; you love their independent decisions and value their intelligence; helmet use can protect them from grievous injuries, pain and even death.

6.Give your child a short course in bike safety, using popular guides like Teaching Your Child to Ride a Bicycle. This would show him that wearing helmets is not an arbitrary rule invented by his family. Remember, you child needs some safety instructions as well.

7.Show your child that even professional athletes like football and hockey players, baseball batsmen and racing car drivers wear helmets for their safety.

8.Take your child to bike racing events where every one is wearing a helmet. When he sees winners of such races wearing helmets, chances are that he would get convinced too.

9.Nothing works well with children better than rewards and recognition. Praise them openly for wearing helmets when he rides a bike.

10.Be firm and consistent in your demand for helmet use. If you budge once, they would quickly presume that they can get away from the rule of wearing a helmet when they take their bike out. Remain stubborn about helmet use and do not allow your kid to take his bike out, without a helmet on his head.

The above ten tips are aimed to make your task easier and make your child agree to wearing a helmet. Individuals injured in a Michigan bicycle accident do have legal rights and should contact a bicycle accident attorney immediately after the accident. This is important because you will want your Michigan bicycle accident attorney to take photographs and interview witnesses, and the longer you wait the harder it is to locate a witness.

Additionally, if you or you child are injured as a bicyclist in Michigan you will often have claims for personal injuries and can file Michigan No-Fault Insurance claims for medical expenses, lost wages, and other benefits, even if you did not own a vehicle or have a Michigan No-Fault Insurance policy. Often in Michigan many claims can be filed even in circumstances of hit and run accidents involving bikers.

Accessories You’ll Need When Mountain Biking

Author: Jan Hartman
When you first start out with mountain biking, it can be a bit overwhelming when you walk into a bike store to buy your first mountain bike and see all of the available accessories you’ll need when you first start riding.

There are several mountain biking accessories and related products that you can purchase. Although the sales staff will try to sell you anything they can, the real question for those on a budget isn’t what’s cool, but what accessories you need to make your rides more safe and enjoyable. By starting with these accessories, you’ll be just fine when you hit the trails.

Bike helmet

The bike helmet is the most important mountain biking accessory that you can buy. No one should ever be on a bike without a helmet. There have been many people who have experienced serious head injury, when it could have prevented by wearing a helmet. All mountain bike helmets are comfortable and stylish and everyone who rides on the trails wears one.

Mountain bike gloves

No matter what season you ride in, your hands can take a beating. Beginners will normally keep a death grip on the handle bars, which can be very brutal for their hands. When you crash, your hands will be the first thing to hit the ground – and everyone crashes at some point. Mountain bike gloves are a must have accessory, as they will take the beating for you.

Mountain bike shorts

After the first few mountain bike rides you take, you’ll notice that your rear end will be quite uncomfortable. Even though your body will adjust, bike shorts are great to have as they will help keep it at a bare minimum. You can get shorts that are very comfortable, making them a great addition to your mountain bike ride. Mountain bike shoes

Depending on the type of pedals you have and the type of riding you do, you’ll want to pick your mountain bike shoes accordingly. If your bike has clipless type pedals, you’ll want to get shoes to accept the special cleat for your pedals. Good mountain bike shoes are durable, comfortable, and also a stiff sole for better efficiency when pedaling. Also, you should make sure to get the right shoe for the terrain you’ll be riding in as well.

Eye protection

If you get something in your eye, you can run off the trail in a matter of seconds. Sunglasses or clear lensed glasses can help keep your eyes safe from debris, as well as protect them from the wind. When you buy your glasses, make sure they are non-breakable.

Hydration system

Bringing a water bottle or hydration backpack with you is always a great idea. It’s very easy to get dehydrated so you should always bring water with you and drink it on the trail to ensure that your body stays properly hydrated at all times.

Trail repair kit

It’s easy to get stuck in the woods or on the trail if you don’t bring the proper repair kit for your bike. To be on the safe side, bring a multi-tool designed for bike repair, tire levers, and a patch kit for fixing flat tires.

Want to take your young child on a bike ride but are worried about safety?

Here is a product from a 100 year old company that is designed to make the childs ride safer and more enjoyable. It is called the Kangaroo child’s carrier for bicycles. It was designed by a small family owned company called Kent Bicycles. Their child saftey seat for bicycles is said to be safer than an ordinary childs bicycle seat because of the unique middle of the bike mounting, instead of the usual behind the parent mounting or the more dangerous front handle bar mounting.

In addition it is claimed that the position in front of the parent makes the ride much more interesting for the child because she can see better.

When I worked in Japan I used to take my young daughter out for bike rides at night if she was fussing. She loved the rides and quickly quieted down. We presented quite a spectacle to the Japanese mothers that we rode past. I had our baby strapped to my back in a traditional Japanese baby carrier. It was very unusual to see a man carrying a baby like that. Even more unusual, of course, to see a foreigner riding down the street with a baby on his back.

Regardless of why you may be interested in taking up a some form of exercise, the bottom line is that you should. It could help to ward off any illnesses, therefore rendering you healthier. In addition to that, it’s a great way to socialize, meet people, and have fun.

The first thing you should consider buying when starting to exercise, regardless of that exercise or sport, is a digital sport watch. Nothing can help you improve your game quicker and better than yourself trying to set goals by timing yourself.

However, if you are allergic, especially to metal, then opting for a model that is nickel free would be recommended. Of course, if you do have any metal allergies, it would be wise to avoid this being in any of your jewelry, as it could make you uncomfortable.

Aside from that, your number one priority should be your safety. Although you may be leaning toward the fact that you may have plenty of experience regarding a particular sport, nothing is more important than protecting your life. So, invest in a good helmet. Better yet, opt for a black helmet to better coordinate your outfits, making it more useful and more cost-effective.

As for your health, you can only stand to gain when you exercise, regardless of what that exercise is. Those who don’t get much physical activity can increase their chances of developing life threatening conditions, such as diabetes, among others.

Exercise can simply mean walking, if that is as far as you are willing to go. The important thing is that you move around. So, instead of driving anywhere, choose to walk. This option is best for you and for your environment.

On the other hand, you may be completely passionate about a particular sport. Playing on a team sport is a good way to stay motivated. That’s simply because you have scheduled games and practices that you feel important to not miss. But, prior to jumping into any sport or exercise, it’s best to think things through. Way out the pros and cons as it could save you lots of money. Imagine buying all your equipment and not going through with it, but what a waste of money that would be.

A cycling enthusiast, I used to spend numerous weekends riding against the wind with my hubby. To me, it was not just a great way to exercise, it was also an excellent opportunity for couple bonding. As a matter of fact, it was cycling that brought us together. We were chatting online via a cycling discussion board then and after several cycling trips, our passion for cycling eventually turned romantic.

Since the birth of our daughter 2 years ago, things started to change. Our committment to our baby denied us of our time with our biking hobby. So much so that going on adventure trips is now considered a luxury. At first, I thought that indicate the end of my love affair with cycling. Well, for the next few years at least. But a good friend’s recommendation altered all that. He proposed that we affix a child bike trailer to our bicycles so that our baby could tag along on our trips!

Frankly, I was kind of worried initially since both of us love speeding on our bikes. But once we made the decision to just try it out, there was no looking back. The experience was fantastic! In fact, our girl enjoyed her maiden ride so much that she would now smile and laugh whenever we position her comfortably in the bicycle trailer!

Child Bike Trailers, What Are Those?

For those of you who are not aware, child bike trailers are chariot-like coaches usually set up to the rear of a bicycle. such bike trailers are actually quite dependable since they use lightweight yet durable frames and materials. A canopy is also included so that you can keep your child away from the harsh weather. Other than that, safety concerns are also factored into their design. For example, many bike trailers contain safety belts and build in other measures to avoid tipping. If you’re into multi-functionality, I’m sure you’ll be delighted to know that some bike trailers can be converted into strollers too.

The Bike Trailer Experience

I’ve really got my child bike trailer to thank for. It not only allowed me to continue my love for cycling, it has also granted me a chance to bond with my 2 year old tot. For example during our trips, we would stop by for a family picnic. My little girl just loves it!

While having fun, don’t forget to look into safety. Ensure that the ride is comfortable and safe for the kid. In any case, always make your child wear a rider helmet and fasten his safety belt before you move off. Personally, I would also control my speed just to ensure that the ride was not too bumpy for the kid. At the end of the day, there was something I can confirm.

I would only enjoy the trip if my baby did.

With over 1200 bike accidents on the roads of Los Angeles each year, nearly four per day, the city is the most dangerous place for cyclists to ride in all of California. If you are planning to ride a bicycle in Los Angeles then you don’t simply need to understand the rules of the road, but you should also know defensive biking tactics so you can avoid any risks that may come your way.
Since Los Angeles is an extremely busy city, people tend to be in a rush. If a driver sees a rare break in traffic for an opportune left turn, they may not have their eye open for the cyclist that is heading their way until it is too late. By understanding your surroundings and preparing for the risks, you can decrease the possibility that you’ll be involved in a bike accident.
Here are five tips for you to use so you can avoid bike accidents in a busy city such as Los Angeles, California:
1. Obey the Laws: Traffic laws in Los Angeles have been created for the sole purpose of limiting accidents; regardless of whether you are driving or cycling. Some cyclists feel as though it is okay for them to ignore the rules of the road, but this only leads to unpredictable behavior. If other people on the road cannot predict what you are going to do, then you are at a much higher risk of being involved in a bike accident than if you followed the law.
2. Stay Alert: Los Angeles, like any other city, has its fair share of bad drivers and road hazards. You need to be prepared for anything that might come your way: a car door opening in your path, a vehicle turning your direction, somebody driving too closely, a pedestrian stepping onto the road, or anything else that may happen.
3. Be Visible at All Times: One of the most common excuses people use in California when they hit a cyclist or a pedestrian is that they didn’t see them. Most drivers in Los Angeles are watching for cars, trucks, and vans; not bicycles. Because of this you need to go beyond the call of duty and make yourself as visible as possible so you can avoid a bike accident. Don’t settle for the least bright light and a dimly reflective helmet; wear bright colors, lots of reflective gear, and get the brightest lights you can.
4. Use Quieter Roads: While the roads of Los Angeles might seem busy at all hours of the day, you should structure your schedule so you can bike in the safest conditions possible. Not only should you plan to avoid rush hour, but you should also find a route that isn’t crowded. The fewer vehicles there are on the road, the fewer obstacles you have to worry about.
5. Fix Your Bike: There’s a popular saying that says “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” On the flip side, it’s equally important to realize that “if it is broken, you should fix it.” In a busy city such as Los Angeles, the last thing you will want to deal with while cycling is a problem with your bike. Make sure you have good tread on your tires and inspect your bike often to ensure no damage goes unnoticed and unrepaired.
It might not always seem convenient to follow these five steps, but it will always help you stay safe and avoid potential bike accidents. By practicing defensive biking in Los Angeles you’ll prevent yourself from getting in as many dangerous situations as other cyclists may face. While there are no guarantees on the roads of Los Angeles, these tips will surely benefit you in a very real way.
